Dorothy Donegan

About

She was a flamboyant virtuoso American jazz pianist who enjoyed mixing many different songs into medleys, showing off her technique and even visited clubs with Art Tatum, who enjoyed pitting her against pianists who wanted to get into a cutting contest with him, as he enjoyed watching her devour the competition. One of her most enjoyable sessions wasn't commercially issued, her appearance on Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz on NPR. After a rousing finale of "Little Rock Getaway," Marian told her, "Oh, Dorothy, you wasted me." Donegan's response was, "It was no contest!" Born : April 06, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois. Died : May 19, 1998 in Los Angeles, California.
