American vocalist, who sang with the orchestras of Duke Ellington, Earl Hines, and Fletcher Henderson during the big band era. She retired from singing in 1956 when she moved to Akron with her daughter and second husband Dr. E. Gates Morgan (first was trumpeter Vernon Smith). In 1986, she came out of retirement to dedicate a musical scholarship to Kent State University. She performed with various groups and artists, including Akron Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, The Kent State University Jazz Ensemble, The Kent State University Gospel Choir, Ernie Krivda and The Fat Tuesday Big Band, The Nuff Rey band, United States Air Force Band, and keyboardist Rock Wehrmann.
