DJ Hammond

DJ Hammond was born in Hungary, Budapest. His dj career started in his 20s, his first gig was on an afterparty in an legendary Hungarian club called Supersonic Technikum in 2003. Soon he got the chance to play in the other Hungarian club called Kashmir Underground. After these successful gigs he started to organize own parties in Kashmir Udg with his dj-friends. In 2005 he started to produce his own tracks. Since 2006 the country borders also became to opened for him, he got requests from different countries from East Europe to the West. His first release was in 2007 on a Various Artists vinyl on Jason Little's label, Fatallic Resignation Records, it was "Evil Foreboding" on FRR003. In 2008 his track with Jason Little "Nucklear Weapon" was in the Top 10 Triple Vision Distribution's sales list. The sounds he play is from the dark and heavy corner of electronic music. Evil, fearsome noises, brutal, pulsating basslines full of energy. He uses hardcore and jungle elements often with pleasure in his tracks. Interview from Datablender Records โ†“ Can you describe the electronic music scene in Hungary? Are there any rising talents? Unfortunately the hardtechno scene in Hungary is going through major changes. The financial situation influences the party-life too. The scene has become really narrow, people like to go to minimal techno parties, bigger events with big names. But given a quite good drum and bass scene there too and of course the commercial house, I mean the club music that the radio plays for the young generation. About the talents I dont really know, because I changed my living place since 6 month, I moved to Germany. But I used to receive new tracks from newcomers from Hungary, Spain, Portugal, and I can say, they do exist! Has hardtechno music changed since your career started and how do you imagine it in 2050? Yes, I think it's changed. Everybody put something into it and take away something from it, but thats the way it goes. The music is kind of an "express yourself"- thing. An art. Its developing but it still keeps something from the beginning. I think the history repeat itself sometimes, so in 2050 maybe there will be another beginning, who knows...But I cant imagine a big change. We have lot of styles in music now, maybe some other will get more attention, maybe the speedcore mixed with classic music... haha. Can be. What else are you listening apart of techno? What was the first music you were interested in? I listen to mostly drum and bass. its very good when you are travelling somewhere. Goa goes too. But when I had enough about electronic music, I listen hiphop from the classical artists, 2pac, snoop dogg, notorious b.i.g., dr dre, eminem... etc but I like reggae too. In the beginning, as a child, I was searching for my style, like everybody, I mostly listened what the radio stations gave, but the friday night - saturday night classical radio mix sessions were good to listen to, I mean I felt "At last! Something new!" But nowadays thats a problem. In radio sessions the DJs are mixing the clubtrax that you also can hear during the day on the same radio. That was my last experience, but I don't know how much reality is in there now, cuz I dont listen those mixsessions and those radios anymore. Every creative personality practices many crafts of art. Are there any other supernatural skills beside music? I like everything that contains a little art. I like photos, movies, everything that has something to say. But I think I dont have any other skills, or at least I never tried... to paint for example. When you play, are they pre planned sets? Negative. I plan what would i like to play 20-30 minutes before my set. Of course new trax are in advance. I like the versus sets too, then you don't know what your partner would like to play and you have just 1-2 minutes to find out which track to play. It's interesting, but I enjoy playing alone more. Then I have time for the "express yourself"-stuff. What was the first event you ever played? I think it was an afterparty in Hungary, a really fabulous event, Hyperspace's afterparty. Started at 6am in the morning in the legendary club called Supersonic Technikum. I would like to go back there sometime, cuz it has a really individual sound! It exists still. It was strange, but I received very nice feedbacks. Or maybe it was the club called Jailhouse? I dont know which was earlier, both was around the same time. Not much later I got the chance to play in the other legendary club in Hungary, the Kashmir Underground, which closed already. :( The best and the worst performance experience in your carrier? Any funny situations? Fortunately I am flexible, I can find good and funny things in bad situations too. But fortunately I had no very bad situation during my gigz. Funny? Hanging a little with fans is always funny! Our research shows that majority is under influence of FL-Studio, what's the trick behind it? I think the trick is that, FL Studio is very easy to use. Thats all! If somebody has patience, then he/she can become a music producer with it. It's ideal to make your ideas come true. How did you cross paths with Jason Little? Is there any other cooperation planed with other artists in the future? The important part in my career was when I met Jason Little. He is the first I know from the first or second generation who cares about the newcomers. He helped me and helps the newcomers still. And we made a couple of nice trax together too, for example "Nucklear Project" on FRR004 and more is planned in the future too. ;) What can we expect from you in the near future and what are your long-term goals? One of my favourite quote from a movie: "You know, I just... do things", The Joker, he was an artist somehow too, artists just do things, what their instict, their muse, says. So I'm going to continue my music and we will see what the future brings. As a lot of artists, I also have influences, my music will change but I try to keep that the crowd likes in my music.
