For over 3 decades, “DJ Dream” or Aslan Davis has been a leader in the Electronic Dance Music scene. To those who still may not know all that much about him, we’ll help you out from under that rock. Our West Coast bred friend has been around the block a few times (and turning heads all the while). Music has been forever entrenched in Dream’s life, having by the age of 8 learned to play four different instruments (piano, trumpet, cello, guitar). He was trained as a classical guitarist and discovered metal, punk and ska in his teenage years. However by the early 1990’s he began to produce, DJ, and gained fame in the rave, warehouse, hip hop and DMC World DJ Championship scenes. Starting his professional musical career with some smaller clubs in the San Francisco Bay Area and then Los Angeles, New York and London. DJ Dream had a rise to recognition in the dance music community that could be considered meteoric. Dream’s production prowess is undeniable with notable released tracks and remixes for Public Enemy, Mos Def, MC Lyte, Lyrics Born, Zion-I, MC Radioactive, Pepper, Erykah Badu, and many others which have gained considerable popularity. The journey that Dream’s talents have taken him on could go on for pages and pages. He has played alongside the likes of fellow legends Grand Master Flash, Mark Farina, Carl Cox, and 808 State, all with a mission of making club goers and fans unable to fight the urge to dance the night away. Over the years DJ Dream has added many different and diverse instruments to his arsenal of sounds such as the Viola De’Gamba, Didgeridoo, hand drums, and various other instruments. Being an oldskool *Tracker and one of the original members of the U.T.F. (United Trackers), he has shared loops, samples, and sounds with artists like Chemical Brothers, Underworld, Prodigy, Future Sound of London, and many others. Best known for his compositions, DJ Dream’s music seems to have no limits and at times it is hard to classify his genre-hopping unique style.
