De Kast

Dutch pop band, founded in 1985 by Syb van der Ploeg, Peter van der Ploeg, Kees Bode, Sytse Broersma (since 1987) and Dick Visser (in 1994 replaced by Nico Outhuijse). De Kast (meaning The Closet in Dutch) sings in both the Dutch and Frisian language, and is one of the few bands to have had hits with Frisian songs in The Netherlands. Their first nationwide success came in 1997, after Henk Temming started producing and (co-)writing songs for the band. The group managed to chart albums and singles into the early 2000s, but the popularity of De Kast started to wane when an album with new singer Jan Tekstra and drummer Fokke De Jong was released in 2003. Syb eventually returned to the band, after trying to pursue a solo career, although with moderate success.
