"His [a=Joel Zimmerman]'s first proper release started out as a joke. It was called "This Is The Hook", written together with [a=Steve Duda] under the name B.S.O.D. (which traditionally stands for ‘blue screen of death’, jargon for the dreaded Windows error message; the duo claims the acronym stands for Better Sounding On Drugs). They took a house beat and added a digitized voice explaining what was happening. They considered it to be a hilarious parody of the formulaic extreme of dance music; what they hadn't counted on was it going to #1 on the Beatport chart in 2006."

B.S.O.D. is a North American electronic duo consisting of Steve Duda and Deadmau5 (aka Joel Zimmerman). The band was formed in 2005, before the duo had ever met in person. Steve was already a well-established programmer/engineer in Los Angeles, and had worked for many well-respected artists such as Nine Inch Nails, Rob Zombie, A Perfect Circle and Tommy Lee, among others. Deadmau5 had also earned a reputation in the Toronto area as a producer and sound-designer, with self-produced electronic music featured in both film and radio.

B.S.O.D. crafted an entire album and remixed Hurt by Christina Aguilera, but the money ran out and Duda had to return to L.A. “We may do some more B.S.O.D. stuff in the future,” says Zimmerman. “And we’re still working on software together.”
