Booker Newberry III

American singer and keyboardist, born January 19, 1956 in Youngstown, Ohio - died April 5, 2023. He was a member of the Philly soul group Sweet Thunder which had a hit with “Baby I Need Your Love Today” and a handful of moderately successful albums on the Fantasy label. From there Newberry briefly joined the dance group Impact before embarking on a solo career. Signed to Neil Bogart's Boardwalk label, Newberry worked on his solo debut with producers Bobby Eli and Nick Martinelli. His song “Love Town” became an international hit. Newberry continued to record from time to time with less success through the 1980s and 1990s, later landing on the Malaco blues label.
