In March 1992, in a garage in Guatemala City, a group of young musicians got together to play and founded "Bohemia Suburbana". A year later they had enough songs to dare to release their first material in cassette format "Sombras en el Jardín" with the first versions of "En el Jardín", "Yo te ví" and "Peces e Iguanas". Due to the band's incipient success, Primera Generación Records released "Sombras en el Jardín" on compact disc with "Dios es Ajeno" and "Del-fin" as bonus tracks. In 1996, sponsored by Radio Vox, Bohemia Suburbana traveled to Miami to produce "Mil palabras con sus dientes." The album took them to play in other cities in the United States, Central America and Puerto Rico. "Peces e Iguanas" became a Guatemalan rock anthem: it was played day and night on the radio. Other songs such as "Aire", "Planeta Hola" or "Yo te Vi" expressed the clamor of a people and became fixed in the imaginary as generational soundtracks. In 2000 Radio Vox publishes “Remixes & la Emergencia de la Circumstancia”, with electronic versions of some of the band's songs. In 2001, produced by themselves and with the support of Pirámide Sound/Premier Producciones they release “Sub”. In March 2002, to celebrate the ten years of the band, they made a documented tour that was later compiled in “Aquí Diez Años” (first edition 2003) or “Bohemia en vivo” (second edition 2005) by Strip Records and DLN Distribution. In 2007, they met in Miami to compose new songs that were finally released in 2009 in the album “Bohemia Suburbana”. Warner Music was in charge of distribution and Bohemia was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award in the Best Rock Album 2010 category. To celebrate Bohemia Suburbana's 20-year career, in 2012, all the former members of the band were summoned to perform three consecutive dates. They gathered at Lake Atitlán, rehearsed and staged an unprecedented show, achieving an attendance of 25 thousand people in the tour called: BS20. During these years, Bohemia Suburbana has shared the stage with Jaguares, Rata Blanca, Café Tacvba, Divididos, Fobia, El Tri, Juanes, Los Auténticos Decadentes, Aterciopelados, Joaquín Sabina, Héroes del Silencio, Maná and Red Hot Chilli Peppers, among others. In 2014, Bohemia Suburbana, formed by Giovanni Pinzón (vocals), Josué García (bass), Alvaro Rodríguez (keyboards), Juancarlos Barrios (guitar) and José Pedro Mollinedo (drums) get together to collectively create their fifth studio album. They get the attention of prestigious producer Phil Vinall who travels to Guatemala for the recording of some songs and then they go for a few weeks to Sonic Ranch Studios in Texas for the final arrangements of “Imaginaria Sonora.” In 2015, they released the singles with video: “Tengo Que Llegar” and “Mal Sabor”, which allowed them to enter the rotation of major television and radio networks such as MTV, also, they received the awards of “Best Song”, “Best Video” and “Best Concert” in the 2015 Circo del Rock Awards in Guatemala. Bohemia Suburbana has worked with renowned producers such as Benny Faccone, Gustavo Menéndez, Phil Vinall and Tweety González, who have enhanced their constant musical evolution. The band has been able to preserve the identity of its roots, while at the same time reinventing itself with each production, expanding the limits of its sound universe. From its beginnings as a garage band, Bohemia Suburbana quickly evolved into a cult group. Their first albums, “Sombras en el Jardín” and “Mil palabras con sus dientes”, remain key cultural references of post-war Guatemala, capturing the emotions of a society in transformation. The poetics of their lyrics, along with synthesizers, hard-hitting riffs and innovative structures, reflect influences of post-punk, industrial rock and synth rock, intertwined with tones and nuances of the Mesoamerican heritage. For this reason, Bohemia Suburbana is recognized in various parts of Latin America as one of the bands that have marked the history of contemporary music in the region. In Guatemala, many of their songs have accompanied significant moments of social resistance and the collective feeling of a society that imagines and fights for change. The impact of Bohemia, as its followers call it, is reflected in the thousands of people who fill its concerts, from large festivals to theaters, stadiums and plazas throughout the country. In addition, the band tours regularly throughout the United States and Central America, maintaining a vibrant connection with their audiences. The band continues to explore new musical proposals, staying true to its essence while expanding the horizons of its sound and message, reaffirming its place as one of the most influential groups in Latin American rock.
