June 4, 1932 - July 31, 2020. A well-known radio DJ and songwriter, Texas native Bill Mack began his career as a singer and radio host at KWFT in Wichita Falls. He MC'd shows like The Big Six Jamboree and Old Hadocol Western Barn Dance. He also recorded extensively for Imperial Records before joining Starday, where cut both hillbilly and rockabilly sides. During the '70s he was host of the Midnight Cowboy Trucking Show on WBAP, Fort Worth; later he was a featured Country personality on XM Satellite Radio. As a songwriter, his best-known title is the Grammy-winning "Blue", recorded by LeAnn Rimes in 1996.
He copyrighted the song "Farther Up The Road" (aka "Further On Up The Road") in March 1961, originally written and copyrighted by Don Robey and Joe Veasey in 1957.
