Born 1921-05-26 in Beaufort, North Carolina Died 2004-12-05 in Beaufort, North Carolina Richard L. Henry, known as Big Boy Henry, a Piedmont Blues style singer and guitarist. 1947 - First recorded 1951 - New York City: Recorded 4 tracks, unreleased at the time, with blues harmonica player Sonny Terry and guitar player Brownie McGhee. 1950's & 1960's - Worked on fishing and oystering crews and ran a grocery store. 1980's - Won a W.C. Handy Award from the Blues Foundation for the song "Mr. President," written as a response to social welfare cuts by US President Ronald Reagan in the '80s. 1995 - Received the North Carolina Arts Council Folk Heritage award
