American actress and singer. Born April 21, 1921 in Rockford, Illinois. Died December 27, 2011 (age of 90) in Los Angeles, California. She was initially discovered on radio and was recording by age 8. Her contralto voice helped her to earn a contract at age 15 with Paramount, making her debut in "Forgotten Faces" in 1936. She introduced the song "I Don't Want to Walk Without You" in the musical Sweater Girl (1942). Rhodes later had her own weekly show on NBC during the 1950s, which aired on Sunday nights. She charted twice on the U.S. charts--first with "Rumors Are Flying", which hit #5 in 1946; and second with "Buttons and Bows", in 1948, which landed at #9.
