Dutch secondary education school, established in 1885 and based in Amsterdam. Barlaeus Gymnasium was originally named "Het Stedelijk Gymnasium," tracing its origins back to Latin schools documented as early as 1594. The school is one of the oldest Amsterdam gymnasiums and adopted its current name in 1927, after Dutch polymath, theologist, poet and Renaissance-era historian Caspar Barlaeus (1584–1648). The school is located nearby Leidseplein square, across Paradiso Amsterdam.
