Before signing to Polydor in early 2020, and undefined in late 2022, Latham was living out of a houseboat in London, UK and working at a undefined record store. She was mentored by Courtney Love, and describes herself as a "pop anti-hero" influenced by Taylor Swift, Fleetwood Mac and Kate Tempest among others.

Latham began writing music as Baby Queen in 2017, inspired by the "the whirlwind life of Instagram influencers and fashion parties" of London.
