German military band leader (1873-1936). Flessburg started his career as a Kapellmeister in the Imperial German Navy (Kaiserliche Marine), rising to Obermusikmeister (2nd Lieutenant). Forced to leave the military in the mid-1920s, he served for a while as President of the Verband der ehemaligen Musikmeister des Heeres und der Marine (Association of former Band Masters of Army and Navy). An early convert to the NS ideology, he became Musikzugführer (band master) of the SS-Standarte 42 Berlin in 1933, rising to SS-Obersturmführer (SS second lieutenant). He composed several NS songs, including "SA Marschiert" (1933).
