    Aletha Dickerson

    American blues pianist, songwriter and businesswoman.


    Born : April 24, 1902 in Chicago, Illinois.
    Died : March 30, 1994 in New York City, New York.
    Her father was a musician and her mother was a music teacher. She and her husband, while both working as musicians, also ran Dickerson’s Record Shop at 31st and State Street, a popular hangout for black and white Chicago musicians. She was also the recording director at Paramount Records, best known for its recordings of African-American jazz and blues.
    She was still teaching piano when she passed away at age of 92.
