Al Rex

About

Al Rex (July 13, 1928, Black Horse, Philadelphia, USA – May 24, 2020, Norristown, Pennsylvania) was an American bassist. He was a member of Bill Haley And The Saddlemen and left the band after playing bass on "Rocket '88" in 1951 and tried his hand at a solo career. Marshall Lytle replaced Al Rex in Bill Haley And The Saddlemen, and in 1952 the group was renamed as Bill Haley And His Comets. In 1955, Marshall Lytle quit Bill Haley And His Comets to form The Jodimars and Rex was persuaded to join. He remained until 1958, leaving to become a member of The Kingsmen. During the 1960s, Al continued to do occasional session work with his former bandmates, and died in May 2020 aged 91.
