Aedena Cycle were a unique outfit: an ambient techno quartet! When the classic "Traveller's Dream" EP on Apollo was released in 1994, the band comprised no less than four talented youngsters from Tromsø (Norway's Detroit - musically speaking, that is). Two of them were Torbjørn Brundtland and Svein Berge, who eventually became the hugely successful Röyksopp five years later. The other two were Kolbjørn Lyslo and Gaute Barlindhaug. The group disbanded shortly after their debut EP: Brundtland went on to work with Rune Lindbæk and Ole Johan Mjøs - together, they comprised Alanïa, Drum Island and Those Norwegians as well as the Flamingo Records team that was responsible for chart smashes by DJ Malin and Oki-Man. Then he joined forces with Svein Berge again and made pop history with the "Melody AM" album. Lyslo is now a house producer under the name Doc L. Jnr., whereas Barlindhaug continued Aedena Cycle as a solo project and released two ambient albums on Beatservice, "Albite" and "Cargo Cult" (allegedly recorded with the some of the crappiest equipment in the history of electronic music). In the early nougthies he had to change the name to Kolar Goi, as the company that owned the rights to Aedena Cycle (a series of graphic novels) didn't approve of the use of the name.
