Adam & The Relevants

Adam & the Relevants is a band from Amsterdam who play rowdy, hook-heavy guitar pop. They are inspired by 90s bands like Weezer and Oasis, as well as contemporary bands like Wavves and FIDLAR. The songs are careless, bold, witty and about nothing grand or glamorous. Nothing new, nothing artsy, just a collection of songs you can instantly sing along to. With the release of their first EP ’VI’ in April 2013 they played more than 50 shows around The Netherlands including lots of summer festivals as well as supports for Babyshambles, Palma Violets and Carl Barât & the Jackals. In September 2013 they appeared on prime time Dutch national television show ‘De Wereld Draait Door’. In January 2014 they played the prestigious Eurosonic/Noorderslag Festival in Groningen, the Netherlands. Since then, the band have been working on their debut album with Xavier Stephenson (UK), who has previously worked with The Joy Formidable, Editors, Carl Barât and many others. At the end of 2013 Xavier was flown in by Wisseloord Studio’s in the Netherlands to record with Adam & the Relevants. Former single ’Places’ and album track ’Roaring Tigers’ originate from this session. In the end a full album never happened at Wisseloord Studio’s, but the band worked so well with Xavier that they kept in touch. A couple months of writing, a ton of iPhone recordings and a handful of Skype sessions later the songs were ready to go. Xavier came over to record the album in Amsterdam, stayed on Adam’s couch and then returned the next month to do it all again and record the other half of the album. Over the following months Xavier managed to mix the album in between sessions at Metropolis Studio’s in London. “It took quite a while and a lot of hassle all together, but the result is well worth the wait!” – Adam Quann
