Kwaito group from South Africa
Aba Shanté was a kwaito group conceived by Arthur Mafokate of 999 Music and originally consisted of Iyaya "Queen", Zanele "Nestum" Njakale, Hazel "Ma-H" Mzolo and Abel "Aba" Golele.
Their style incorporated reggae-influenced sounds (called D'gong) and raggamuffin-inspired toasting/dj'ing by group member no other than Abel "Aba" Golele, who resembled the likes of Shabba Ranks.
They released their debut album "Girls" in 1996 and gained huge success, leading to more albums in later years.
Abel Golege passed away in a highway accident, which got 999 Music label artist Zombo to join the group.
Zombo later died in 2008 due to complications of HIV.
